Royals Parade

We had good luck a couple of Tuesdays ago and made it to the Royals Parade.  We had even better luck considering we got separated and still managed to watch the parade together.  Danny and I crossed at 10th and Grand, thinking Aaron and Maura were right behind us, but due to the crowd they got stuck on the other side.  Of course, that was the last time the police were letting people cross before the parade. Aaron and Maura hiked all the way around the Sprint Center and found a great spot only about 3 rows deep.  Danny and I were able to meet up with them and have lunch before the parade started.  Here are some pictures (in reverse order):

Happy Birthday Maura!

We have a 4 year old (who thinks she is 8)!  Maura loves preschool, especially the days when she paints.  Recently, she just started a dance/tumbling class and has fun practicing her twirls and plies at home. Maura loves playing house or tea party with her dolls.  Yesterday her Anna and Elsa dolls were having hot chocolate at a beach.  :)  She is still our snugglebug!

Maura had her friend birthday party at Electric Park the weekend before her birthday.  The kids got to play on the playground, eat hot dogs and sprinkle cupcakes, and decorate pumpkins.

Her actual birthday was much more low key, we were all tired from the Lenexa Chili Challenge. Maura decided to have ice cream sundaes instead of cake.

Road Trip 2015

Our first stop on our trip was Hilton Head.  It was a long two days, especially getting through Atlanta.  We stayed at a hotel right on Coligny Beach, which was beautiful, the hotel room not so much.  Spent our days splashing in the water and building sand castles.  We went miniature golfing, swam at the pool, watched the pelicans dive and ate too much food at a great Cajun restaurant (we went two nights in a row).

The second part of our trip was a stop at the Smoky Mountains on our way back home.  We stayed at Pigeon Forge, which is like Branson on crack.  We did some hiking at the national park and rafting on the Pigeon River.

First Grade!

Danny started school last week and so far seems to be enjoying it (at least recess).   Lots of new things to figure out this year: including riding the bus, being at school all day and if his teacher, Mrs. Weiss, is a teenager or grown-up (asked as walking to classroom on 1st day).

Ready to go!
Sat right down at his desk to start morning work.

Back to school survey:

Favorite movie or TV show?  Tom and Jerry
Favorite song? Ghostbusters
Favorite food?  Pancakes and bacon
Favorite things? Legos, Wii and water slides

End of School Year - Danny Edition

Here's an update on what Danny's been up to this year:

Lego maniac
Soccer
Basketball - check out that defense
Turned 6 years old!  Can't believe how big he is getting!  Loves sports, the Wii, playing with friends, listening to songs on mom's old ipod and eating cheesburgers.
Birthday bowling party with friends.  Danny got two strikes!
Birthday party - Danny made some good friends (Brandon, Jack and Evan) this year in Kindergarten.
Building a lightsaber at Disneyworld
Danny's last day of Kindergarten.  He got a monster award for illustrating.  He likes to tell stories and lately has been making books about his favorite things (mostly Star Wars or Super Mario Bros).

End of School Year - Maura Edition

Here's some highlights of Maura's year:

Meeting Rapunzel at Disneyworld
Cheering for big brother at soccer, can't wait for her turn to play!
"I don't need naps"
Becoming quite the artist, Maura loves coloring and drawing
Rocking gymnastics in a tutu
Loves to sing and dance, but will get shy if too much attention.  Maura loves to sing along to songs on the radio in the car, I am amazed by how quickly she learns them.  Lately, Taylor Swift is a favorite.
Loves pretend play - tea parties, house, dressing up

Merry Christmas

We had a very fun holiday season, including a trip to Disney World (future blog post).  Koopa Hawka (our elf) brought a Lego advent calendar on Dec 1st to start off the season.  We didn't cross everything of our to do list, but we managed to bake cookies, see lights, watch some classic Christmas movies and visit Santa. Danny was bummed about no white Christmas, just a little bit of snow a few days before.  The kids learned some new carols, Maura's favorite is Angels Sing (Hark the Herald Angels Sing), and they rediscovered their love of candy canes.
